Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents
Today we are diving into a question I received on the job a few weeks ago. One of my customers asked “How do I get those streaks off of my bathroom walls?”. She was referring to the condensation or humidity dripping down the walls from taking a shower. If you live in the South, you know what I mean.
These streaks not only cause an eyesore as they usually make dirt and dust more visible, but they provide the perfect place for mold to grow. We don’t want mold… no one wants mold.
So how do we clean this the green way?
It took me a little bit of trial and error, but I found a simple solution to spray on the walls that easily loosens the dirt and takes out a good bit of the staining from the paint.
You will need: a spray bottle, Meyers Clean day all purpose cleaner, vinegar, and a clean rag.
Before you start, fill your spray bottle with warm water, add one capful of Meyers all purpose concentrate and about ¼ cup of white distilled vinegar.
Step 1 – Spray your walls generously with the solution, don’t forget to also spray the baseboards (if you have them). The solution will go to work loosening the dried on dirt and the vinegar will help to disinfect and kill any mold growing on the surface.
Step 2 – Take your clean rag and wet it with warm water. Simply use the rag to wipe the dirt and stains off of the paint and trim.
That’s it! Pretty simple. I will say that the more often you do this process the less staining you will have in the paint, so I recommend once a week or every other week.
My bathroom is small, but I have applied this technique to a great number of homes and have found it usually takes a maximum of 10 minutes.
